Easy Site Editor
Readme file

Welcome and thanks for downloading Easy Site Editor (ESE for short)!
This application allows you to edit you website pages easy and rapidly, and upload them immediately (only if you have FTP possibilities)! This file will explain what Easy Site Editor can do, and how to use Easy Site Editor.

Features
Easy Site Editor is capable of doing the following things:

  • Open and edit any file in the folder ESE is located in;
  • Ability to browse through subdirectories and edit files in these directories;
  • Immediately upload the changed file, even to a subdirectory;
  • Store your FTP login data for even faster accessing or editing in ESE;
  • Automatically connects when clicking the 'Upload' button, so no fear of disconnections while editing a page.

  • How to use Easy Site Editor
    This is a quick explanation of how you do things in the application.

    Before you start

  • Before you start, you have to make sure that you have the latest backup of your website on your computer.
  • To use ESE on your website, copy EasySiteEditor.exe to the directory where you have this backup.
  • ESE will access the files in these directories directly, and upload those files, leaving your online files even untouched when it comes to downloading/opening. This is the reason you will need to have all your site files available offline.
  • For some users, the program might give a 'DLL not found' error. In this case, download the necessary DLLs here.

    Connecting

  • To connect, you first have to insert your Login data on the left of the screen. The port usually is 21. If you don't know certain data, you can ask for it at your webhost.
  • Once you inserted all data, there is nothing more you have to do. ESE will try to connect with the data you filled in whenever it's needed.
  • You can choose to save the login data for next time. If you turn on the 'Save login data' checkbox, your login data will be saved in an INI file called ESELoginData.ini. Next time you open ESE, all login data will be filled in.

  • Accessing a subdirectory

  • First, check the 'Available subdirectories' list to see what subdirectories are available to you.
  • Type the name of the subdirectory you wish to access in the 'Subdirectory?' box and click on OK.
  • If you entered the name of an existing subdirectory, the file list will now change it contents to whatever is in the subdirectory. Else it will show an empty list.
  • To go back to the root directory, empty the 'Subdirectory?' box and click on OK.
  • Keep in mind that the subdirectory box will also affect where the file will be uploaded! If you accessed a subdirectory called 'pages', then the file will be uploaded online in the 'pages' directory too! You can choose to avoid this by emptying or changing the 'Subdirectory?' box, but not clicking on OK. This way, you can upload a file to a different place than it's offline subdirectory, though it's not recommended!

  • Editing a page in the root directory

  • Simply select a file in the Directory list. It will be opened in the 'Edit page' box to the right of the Directory list.
  • Once you are finished with editing your page, click on the Save button underneath the Edit page box to save the file. You can also click on 'Save As...' to save the file under a different name.
  • If you want to upload the file, simply click the 'Upload' button. The file will automatically be uploaded to the correct subdirectory.

  • That's it
    Well, I think this file tells you all you need to know about ESE and how to use it. I hope you enjoy using this program.
